Ceibal Foundation presents “Hechizo”, the winning proposal in the open innovation “Más allá del aula” (Beyond the classroom) call issued as part of the project “Enhancing the contribution of Edutech for the learning of reading and writing”. The aim of this project, led by Ceibal Foundation in collaboration with Ceibal, the innovation laboratory IDB Lab, IDRC Canada and the ReachingU Foundation, and with the Catholic University of Uruguay as a strategic partner, is to develop an app to support the learning of reading and writing in Spanish by children in their early literacy stage with a focus on the first year of primary education, particularly children from disadvantaged backgrounds.
The winning strategy, presented by Daniela De La Torre, proposes implementing a comprehensive, multidisciplinary programme that includes pedagogical and communication elements, combining different formats and activities that could enrich the educational experience of children and teachers and also involve families in the use of the educational app. De La Torre will be given USD 5,000 in prize money.
Implemented by Socialab, the “Más allá del aula” (Beyond the classroom) call received 96 applications from 13 countries in Latin America and 1 from Europe. The goal was for creative and innovative people and organizations to make contributions to the development of strategies and resources that will help promote the use of a literacy app in a blended (classroom-home) learning context.
