Pedagogical trends Journal: call for abstracts

The call to submit articles for the Pedagogical Trends Journal of the Autonomous University of Madrid is open (Vol. 35). The edition is entitled “Future possibilities for schools and education” and is coordinated by Dr. Cristóbal Cobo (Ceibal Foundation, Uruguay) and Dr. Mariano Norodowsky (Universidad Torcuato di Tella, Argentina).
Purpose of the edition
The purpose of the edition is to understand and reflect about possible future scenarios linked to schooling processes. The social and educational transformations generated and driven by digital technologies, restructure the educational scene. In this context, new actors and teaching-learning strategies are increasingly legitimized. The monopolistic role (historically assigned) to formal education is today on debate. Although school systems are important for reducing inequality of origin, socioeconomic status, country of birth, ethnicity, or gender continue to be obstacles for social advancement in our societies.
Although digital technologies position themselves as useful tools for capacity-building, they can also turn into factors for social exclusion. Guided and strategic use within educational communities is key for the promotion of digital literacy and skills required by employment markets. In this sense, the integration of these technologies to traditional practices and education systems remains an important global challenge.
Main research questions
Some of the main phenomena associated with the educational systems of the 21st century (among others) are the following: intergenerational relations scientific paradigms, transformations, changes in the ways of producing and distributing knowledge, and how each One of these phenomena is articulated with technologies. From this it is that the following questions arise:
What consequences do or will these processes have on the future of schooling?
Who would benefit (or hurt) with the adoption of new technologies inside (or outside) the school?
What approaches can be built based on data and evidences from the present that help to understand future scenarios for schools?
Could schools of the past coexist with new educational technologies of the future?
Target audience and important dates
The call is aimed at all those interested in contributing their theoretical approach, based on evidence, about the problems raised. Critical, creative, and multidisciplinary proposals will be especially valued.
The maximum date for receipt of articles is May 15, 2019.
Expected date of publication: first semester of 2020.
