The Ceibal Foundation has been invited by UNESCO’s Global Education Monitoring (GEM) Report to lead the organization of the Global Launch of the 2023 GEM Report on technology in education in Montevideo in coordination with the office of the GEM Report, based at UNESCO in Paris, and the Uruguayan Ministry of Education and Culture.
This event, declared of interest by the Uruguayan Ministry of Tourism, will take place next July 26 and 27 in a blended format at the Hyatt Centric Montevideo hotel. It will bring together ministers, experts, academics, representatives of civil society organizations and the private sector from Latin America and the Caribbean and the rest of the world to reflect on the main findings and recommendations of the 2023 GEM Report.
The first day of the event will see the global launch of the Report, followed by a high-level dialogue on the role of technology in education with the participation of education ministers from Latin America and Africa. The annual meeting of the Alliance for the Digitalization of Education in Latin America (ADELA), led by the Ceibal Foundation, will bring the first day to a close in the afternoon.
The second day will feature the event “Technology and education in Latin America: regional and global perspectives”, organized by the Ceibal Foundation in the context of ADELA, and a digital exhibition of research and innovation projects from the Research Sector Fund: Digital Inclusion, led by the Ceibal Foundation and the National Research and Innovation Agency (ANII). In the afternoon, the panel discussion “How can technology providers support the sustainable development of education in the region?” and an event on blended models and education policies, organized by UNESCO, will take place at the same time.
The aim of this event is to present the main findings of the 2023 GEM Report and hold a high-level debate on its recommendations for the purpose of promoting the exchange of best practices on the use of technology in education. The chance to implement this activity of global and regional interest in Uruguay strengthens the country’s leadership as an innovator in the field of education and technology. It will also be the first time in the history of the GEM Report that the global launch will take place in a Spanish-speaking country, a key milestone on the global education calendar.
