Joint policy briefs among Ceibal Foundation (Alessia Zucchetti and Cristóbal Cobo), University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (Angela C. Lyons) and Saint Joseph University of Beirut (Josephine Kass-Hanna) were recently published within the Think 20 initiative, under the Japanese G20 presidency (https://t20japan.org/).
The G20 is one of the most relevant intergovernmental international forums worldwide. Its members include 19 individual countries and the European Union (EU). The T-20 (Think 20) is was created within the G-20 in order to provide research-based inputs and policy guidance to help G20 Leaders address pressing global challenges and deliver more inclusive, sustainable growth. These policy recommendations are organized through 10 Task Forces.
Since 2018 and during the Argentina Presidency of the G-20, Ceibal Foundation is part of the Task Force: Future of Work and Education in the Digital Age which has the aim to reflect about several major technological transformations (e.g., artificial intelligence or AI, fintech, the Internet of Things, Industry 4.0) that are putting the global economy on a new track.
“This Task Force will make recommendations on how to achieve well-balanced labor markets capable of matching the supply of and demand for skills in an environment of rapidly changing technology while reducing inequalities and promoting economic and social development. It also aims to provide policy advice to develop educational systems that promote equal opportunities, lifelong learning, and financial literacy. Finally, it aims to make recommendations in the areas of data security, so that the digital economy can be harnessed effectively to greatly improve prosperity and inclusiveness”(T-20).
Leaving No One Behind: Measuring the Multidimensionality of Digital Literacy in the Age of AI and other Transformative Technologies is a brief that emphasizes the need for a holistic framework encompassing technical and socioemotional dimensions to formulate 21st century skills targets and pave the way for tangible outcomes in the workplace and beyond, not leaving behind the most vulnerable populations.
The other brief, titled Bridging the Gap Between Digital Skills and Employability for Vulnerable Populations, provides recommendations in order to bridge the digital skills gap and foster the employability of vulnerable populations, which can lead ultimately to larger macroeconomic outcomes such as poverty reduction, income growth, and economic empowerment.
