UNESCO GEM Report: Ceibal Foundation leads regional consultation
Ceibal Foundation has been appointed to lead the consultation process in Latin America for the 2023 Global Education Monitoring Report (GEM), which will address the issue of technology and education. The aim of this report is to monitor progress towards education targets in the context of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), and on this occasion it will examine the education challenges to which the appropriate use of technology can offer solutions, while recognizing that some of these solutions can have negative effects.
The consultation process is open and available so that policymakers, leading organizations, teachers, students and other members of the education community, as well as the general public, can give their views on the following topics:
- Access, equity and inclusion in education, analyzing the ways in which technology can help to reach students from disadvantaged backgrounds and ensuring that knowledge comes through in more appealing, accessible and low-cost formats.
- Improved quality in terms of both teaching and learning basic skills which attract and motivate students and relevance, ensuring the development of digital skills necessary in everyday life.
- The challenge of promoting technology, highlighting the role of technical, professional and higher education institutions in national strategies for technological development, employment and economic growth.
- The role of technology in system management, with a special focus on assessment and other education management data that may be used for planning.
In addition to leading this consultation process, Ceibal Foundation and the GEM Report will hold a high-level event in 2022 with representatives of the region to jointly reflect on the concept note for the 2023 GEM Report and present best practices and evidence that will illustrate the repercussions of the use of technology in education.
Ceibal Foundation is represented on the Advisory Board of the GEM Report by its Director, María Florencia Ripani. “It is very important to hold this consultation in the region at a time when technology plays an increasingly strategic role in teaching and learning processes, and in inclusion policies,” Ms. Ripani pointed out.
