the 1st international meeting “New Metrics for Evaluation: Towards Innovation in Learning.”
INSTITUTIONS – RESEARCH GROUPS
Ceibal Foundation with the National Institute of Educational Assessment (INEEd), the ICT4V Centre, and the Inter-American Development Bank – Education Division organized the 1st international meeting “New Metrics for Evaluation: Towards Innovation in Learning.” The meeting took place on April 15th, 2016 and was attended by national and international experts and institutions working on the study and promotion of training experiences in education and technology. The purpose of the meeting was to share experiences and encourage analysis around the opportunities and challenges of using the new metrics for assessment in learning.
PROJECT BACKGROUND
The increasing integration of information and communication technologies and their progress in the field of education not only make different ways of learning possible, but they also produce an unprecedented volume of data. This has led to the creation of increasingly sophisticated and complex information management systems.
This scenario begs a number of questions to be explored, such as: What data will help us to understand Learning from a broader, more comprehensive perspective? How do you exploit them? How do you construct the new learning assessment scenarios? What major experiences in the field of education are related to this? What risks should be taken into account?
An adequate use of this information can provide us with new ways of analyzing and promoting learning from perspectives that go beyond the traditional fields of and approaches to assessment and intervention. However, this requires the development of multidisciplinary professional capacities and inter-institutional efforts to integrate, process and analyze this information for the development of new knowledge, policy decision-making and the production of improvement devices.
OBJECTIVES
To promote talks between experts and educators on the potential of data analytics and the promotion of new domains in and approaches to the assessment of learning.
To present and reflect on major international, regional and national experiences in this field.
To promote the use, exchange and exploitation of data to generate broader perspectives on learning processes, and analyze the effectiveness of policies, programmes and strategies aimed at their development and improvement.
To encourage the building of a network for exchange, collaboration and transfer of knowledge between experts and institutions interested in devising new systems for the measurement and analysis of learning achievements.
