Applications open for Winter School in Education and Technology 2020

“Challenges facing educational practices for building a combined, multiplatform and transmedia educational ecosystem”

Fundación Ceibal announces that applications for the fourth edition of the Winter School are now open. It will take place online on Friday August 14th from 9am to 12.30pm.

This year’s topic will be “Challenges facing educational practices for building a combined, multiplatform and transmedia educational ecosystem”. The current scenario reveals the need and the opportunity to transition toward flexible educational systems. These systems should be able to address the requirements and integration needs of various educational environments and stakeholders, by designing an evidence-based, multi-platform, trans-media learning ecosystem. 

Integrating analogue and digital media according to their specificity is key to building connection and interaction networks among the many stakeholders within the educational community, as well as unifying distributed learning spaces. This challenge also addresses the gap between knowledge-building narratives and methods in formal education and those experienced by children and young people in informal settings, which are linked to digital culture and are subject to novel restructuring patterns. This will result in the creation an educational narrative that can engage and motivate students, which is vital to any quality educational experience. 

This event will be attended by prominent speakers on these issues, renowned both locally and abroad. It will cover the following topics:

1. Context: characteristics of the emerging socio-technological ecosystem
2. Challenges facing the construction of a multiplatform and transmedia educational strategy: 

• Transmedia production as an educational strategy: Possibilities and challenges,
• Reshaping the role of schools and educational stakeholders in the face of new learning environments,
• Designing specific content for students, teachers and families (communication formats, narrative styles and aesthetics, platforms, accesses, etc.),
• Promoting learning, placing an emphasis on the educational inclusion of the most vulnerable sectors,
• Integrating media stories with teaching-learning proposals (use of audiovisual and interactive resources as learning resources),
• Developing skills for critical and creative use of digital technologies by teachers and students.
• Assessing the interaction between formal and informal spaces (including multiplatform proposals for the latter) and student motivation,
• Assessing the impact of audiovisual content launched in Uruguay,
• Handling of data and information for feedback purposes,
• Devising design and evaluation methodologies for the various components of the multi-platform-transmedia strategy.

APPLICATIONS

Applications will be open from 29 July to 6 August 2020 at 5 pm (GMT -3). 

All applications must be submitted by completing the form on this link. Participants will be selected according to their academic and professional experience, their motivation to be part of the Winter School and the selected candidate’s potential contribution to the topics addressed in their home institution. The 2020 Winter School will be held in Spanish. 

Selected applicants will receive the schedule and indications on how to participate.
