Research into distance and blended learning for rural communities
Through the project “Adaptaciones Digitales para una Educación a Distancia Efectiva e Inclusiva en Comunidades Rurales de Honduras y Nicaragua” (Digital Adaptations for Effective and Inclusive Distance Learning in Rural Communities in Honduras and Nicaragua), Ceibal Foundation seeks to strengthen the education systems of Honduras and Nicaragua.
Latin America is the most unequal region in the world and is going through a learning crisis that is curtailing social mobility. The inequalities in education are exacerbated in rural areas.
In this context, this project seeks to increase the ability of the education systems of Honduras and Nicaragua to improve equity and inclusion in rural communities through the efficient use of digital technologies for distance and blended learning.
It proposes an approach with sustainable integration of educational television with accessible digital media and adaptations, the use of available technological and cultural resources, participatory practices in the production of resources and projects (teachers, students, families, community), and a strategic design based on the region’s tried-and-tested experiences.
The project is being implemented by Ceibal Foundation and is funded by Canada’s IDRC and the Global Partnership for Education (GPE).
